After my trek in the Khumbu region it was time to return to cycling. My plan was to cycle few roads in Nepal then go to Sikkim (India) and come back to Kathmandu to fly home at the end of January. Then few changes at home made me decide to come home just before Christmas and skip the visit to Sikkim for this time.
I arrived in Calgary after 80 hours of “hellish” travel and it was rather strange to be home “so soon” but I see it as a temporary stop! This was my second long cycling adventure and will not be the last! I have many more routes in mind and riding my bike is for me the best way to travel. During my last few days in Nepal I started to dream of a “proper” around the world cycle touring trip...it is only a matter of time. In Nepal I also realized how much I like cycling on my own. For now I will enjoy time with my lovely dog Tashi, put my studded tires on my bike and get my touring skis out to enjoy the Canadian winter! Tashi and I started 2011 with a great day cross-country skiing in the Rockies...and of course I have to find work...if you know of anyone looking for an accountant or SAP Security specialist send them my way :-)
I will give myself some time to settle before getting back to you with my final thoughts on the last 6 months of travel as well as future projects but for now you can visit my Blog to see pictures and stories of my last few weeks in Nepal.
I want to thank you all for your support and encouragement. I have raised nearly $3000 for the Ladakh Project which is 66% of my initial goal. I planned on doing few more activities locally to reach my $5000 goal. I will let you know of future slide show/talks in the future. If you haven’t contributed and desire to do so it is still possible by going to my Giving Page.
I hope you all had a great Christmas and wish you all the best for 2011.
